We had so much fun getting to ride on Audrey's pre-school float! We helped decorate it the night before, in the morning we hopped on to enjoy the ride and see neighbors and meet some new friends that will be in Audrey's class. All the children were given huge pipe cleaners which they then turned into lassos (for the rodeo theme) Audrey had a ball and so did we!

Audrey's First Movie

For Father's Day, we all went out to see Audrey's first movie in the theater: Toy Story 3. Audrey is a HUGE fan of the Toy Story saga, so we thought it would be a fitting first film for her. She was so excited, and had her Jessie doll and everything!

Audrey wanted to sing "Do a Deer" to Opa for fathers day. It was so cute when she sang it to him on the phone, that I set out to try and film her singing it so he could see her. This ended up being a slightly difficult task as she became rather camera-shy when I pulled out the video. When I heard her singing along in the car, I hid the camera phone on the dashboard and hit record. At times, though, I think she somehow knows she's being watched. Well, here you go Opa. Now you can see her performance!

This morning we were watching the Sound of Music [Audrey carries on a running commentary of what is happening when she's not singing.] When Maria and the children were at the market getting fruits & vegetables for their picnic, Audrey was commenting, "See, Maria is buying apples, potatoes, oranges, tomatoes and bikinis." [She really meant 'zuccinis' but that's not what came out! I don't think I will ever look at a zuccini with a straight face again!]Have a great day and be sure to eat all of your fruits and bikinis! I swear, this entire game was NOT my doing. Audrey found one of Shatrine's poster mailer tubes, and came to me with a ball and asked, "want to play ball?" I did not initiate any of this. We weren't even watching baseball at the time or anything. It was totally out of the blue, so it caught me by surprise and I had to pull out my camera to take some video. I guess I've been watching too much baseball of late. She knew exactly what she needed to do with the bat. Crazy.

Thanks to my wonderful folks, Glenn and I were able to leave Audrey in her grandparents very capable hands for the afternoon and go get lunch at The View Point Inn. It is a wonderful little place along the Columbia Gorge. Wonderful food, great conversation and oh so much history to hear about... and by the way the "Twilight" movie prom scene was filmed there. So there were countless fans surveying every inch of the place.. It was pretty funny. The best part of the story is that this little Inn would have closed down if it weren't for the movie making it a great attraction place (and the food is outstanding!). It was a great day!

P.s Yes, I am pointing at the "Prom Archway" all the actors used in the film.

We got to go over to a friends farm a see their new baby calf, the big cows, some goats and baby chics. So our little Audrey was in need of a hair cut. We found a cute little place that is just for kids, and boy did she have a blast. She got to sit in a little pink car while watching a Disney movie during which the kind hair stylist trimmed her locks.

On a side note, Audrey has also been obsessing about hair bows. So in this picture she had just put this bow in herself. What a milestone! Ha - Ha!

Remembering Uncle Stan

We lost a great man this Christmas, my Uncle Stan. Through the snow and ice we made it over to the coast for his funeral. It was a hard day but it brought family together to remember him and that in itself was a precious time.

Swiss Baking At Its Best!

On Sunday, my Mom, Aunt Verna, Audrey and I all went up to Olympia Washington to my cousin Dawn's house. She has a brand new kitchen so we decided to break it in by baking some Swiss holiday treats. Glenn's 30th birthday was earlier this month and so we planned a Disc Golf tournament to celebrate, hence the reason for the name "The Krake Klassik." Well folks, the time has come. Not only does Audrey have 2 teeth but she is chattering up a storm and taken at least 4-5 steps on her own. How could this be, since she is only 9 months? As most of you know I was in Texas for quite a few years. In the first few years I lived there I got to meet a great couple, Clay and Erin. This last Tuesday they lost their 21 month old boy, Weston. I had the best steak of my life. I don't think I'm exagerrating either. It was a filet de oscar (crab and gorgonzolla topping); incredible.

What a great night! We drove out to the Maryhill Winery (2 hours out of Portland overlooking the Gorge) to see BBKing in concert. It was pretty amazing. At 82, he's still shredding, and is the total entertainer. He told some awesome stories between songs. He even did a U2 cover! It was funny hearing him take pride in the fact that "U2 wrote 'When Love Comes to Town' for me." Good stuff. We took Bob for his birthday, and the whole family got to go (including Uncle Jim!... sadly, Uncle Bill was a late minute scratch; he wasn't feeling too well). We had pretty great seats in the reserved section, but we were able to sneak up even closer, and I snapped some nice pics. Enjoy.

Awesomest 4th of July Video

So I threw together a sweet little video (if I do say so myself) of our 4th of July experience. We had a blast setting up the show on two barges. We got there at 8am, and set up wiring and fuses all day, then got a chance to watch the show from the barge directly overhead. We had to dodge some shrapnel; good stuff.

Baseball for Father's Day!

I was so excited to spend my first Father's day at a baseball game with my daughter! It was her first baseball game, well... I guess she did get to go to a West Linn High School game last month. So, this is her first professional game. Even though it is only a minor league game. And a GIANTS minor league game, at that! But it was fun none-the-less. Grammy and Mom brought lawn chairs, so we got to sit in the outfield and enjoy the game. The Salem-Kaiser Volcanoes (Giant's A-ball team) destroyed the Corvallis Knights (a combination of random Pac-10 college ball-players) 9-2, but we had fun jawing with the Knight's right fielder Logan who plays for the OSU Beavers. John and I had been to a Salem-Kaiser game before, so we were excited to partake in the concessions, but we mistakenly mis-represented the Volcano Burger, thinking it was actually good. Turns out we got it mixed up with the Lava Burger (The awesome double burger loaded with all kinds of goods and available only at a Tacoma Rainer's game). So, we overspent on our burgers that were mediocre, but had fun just hanging together and enjoying the sun. What a great first Father's Day!

Fun with Opa

For Uncle Johnny's Graduation and Father's Day, "Opa" came down to visit and got to spend some quality time with his granddaughter. Audrey thoroughly enjoyed her time with her Opa. We went to the Glockenschpiel German Restaurant in Mount Angel, had Noho's Hawaiian Barbecue, and even got to see a baseball game! They just enjoyed being together. She really likes it when Opa takes her on a "Row-row-row your boat" adventure!

Uncle Johnny's Graduation

Audrey got to visit my cousins (I guess that would be her 2nd cousins), Kimberly, Daniel, and Benjamin at my Uncle Johnny's Graduation ceremony. She was especially enamoured with Kimberly's glasses.

The sad part of the ceremony was that the MC of the event LITERALLY read out of the program (giving out awards for seemingly anything and everything before actually introducing the graduates). The entire graduation lasted over 2 1/2 hours, but could have easily been done in under an hour and a half. The bright side, though, was seeing Uncle Johnny graduate as Valedictorian with a degree in funeral services. The best part was seeing his whole graduating class wearing mortician's hats with a toe-tag hanging off body-bag-style instead of the traditional mortar cap. Good times. Audrey enjoyed visiting everyone.

So, Shatrine and Marilyn were out and about on this Memorial Day, so it was Daddy's day with Audrey. That means, Daddy gets to pick the wardrobe. Sadly, Shatrine took the camera with her so I was relegated to using my phone to take this footage, and somehow, I could not get the audio to come through (though it works on my phone). So my Mom and I combined our Mother's Day and voted to go see our cousins Warren & Sharon in Skamania, Washington. Now besides seeing our family, you might be thinking, "Why in the world would they go to Skamania?" I think the pictures will speak for themselves. They live on the Washington side of the Columbia Gorge - they filmed moves like "Maverick" and such on this river because it is so beautiful and yesterday was no exception! A little rainy but who cares look at that rainbow!

So this Saturday was my mom's birthday. We decided to take a little break and go to the beach (Seaside to be exact). As we were leaving it was actually snowing in Aurora. When the Dodgers moved from Brooklyn to Los Angeles back in 1958, they played three seasons at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. To commemmorate the anniversary, they played an exhibition game against the Red Sox in front of a world record 115,300 people (the most ever to see a baseball game).
John and Dave get in on the media frenzy: Seriously, from the opening pitch to the end of the game, there were CONSTANT flashbulbs. Incredible.

Hello Hollywood

Part of my Christmas present this year was a plane ticket down to LA during my spring break so I could see the Dodger's 50 anniversary of moving to LA. So I flew down and got to do some touristy LA things since our friend Dave Bush from the East Coast came out. It's funny how sometimes you never get to see some of the more touristy areas until you show someone else around. In fact, after going to college and living in LA for 6 years, I had never been to Venice beach. Well, here is my "Sidney Dean" pose with Dave (if anyone gets the "White Men Can't Jump" movie reference).

We also did a little cruising (well, ok, a LOT) down Hollywood Blvd. I think we figured about 4 miles of walking, just so I could find Johnny Cash and Audrey Hepburn's star. And my dad had his life in danger by some road-rager, but he was able to dodge the on-coming traffic. All that to say, I got my pictures:

Fun in Mt. Angel

So we headed south to Mount Angel to do some German-ey things. We ate at the Glockenspiel, which is this great German restaurant actually run by a family friend. Grams treated us, and we were even there for the big Glockenspiel extravaganza (it goes off everyday at 4pm and 7pm). My favorite part was the boy and girl in laderhosen swinging out an singing "Edelweiss." Good stuff.

After dinner, we headed up to the Mount Angel Abbey to check out their incredible library that was set up on the hill. The architecture was incredible, but sadly, we couldn't go in because they were closed (despite the website saying they were open... i guess technology updates aren't the most pressing of things for monastic life). We did see three Benedictine Monks roaming through the campus. pretty cool.

Then, it was too late to hit up the Tulip Festival which was also there in Mt. Angel, so Gram and I headed back the next day with Audrey. It's free on weekdays, so it was fun to cruise around. Not all of the tulips will be in full bloom for another two weeks, but there were still some. Enjoy these pics!
